Understanding the Basics of SEO in 3 Cs

Ilya Nasedkin • 19 October 2018

Organic search has moved away from the server basement where a group of super geeks who haven’t seen the sun for what appears to be years, debate how to crack the secret of Google’s algorithm. Most digital business owners and marketers have at least a fundamental understanding of how SEO works and how rankings on search engines are achieved. We certainly don’t need to explain how important it is. Or that it can still be one of the most cost effective digital marketing channels if achieved.None the less though, we do still see it overcomplicated by would be ‘digital gurus’ and specialist SEO service providers alike. So, to cut through that and make things nice and simple, follow these 3 Cs to keep a handle on the important elements of SEO for your new website design.

A hand is pointing at the word seo on a keyboard.

1. Crawlability – Website Readability Crawlability is, in essence, how easy it is for search engine robots to crawl through and index your website. This is mainly a developer SEO segment and comes down to:·How well the website has been constructed, coded and laid out·How fast pages load·How well the navigation has been put together and·In the modern era of mobile first, how well the site performs on mobile devices as well as desktopSEO should be one of the main items of discussion when you’re planning a new website. If SEO effectiveness is not included as part of your development plan something is very wrong and this would be a red flag. Fortunately, Eazi Sites incorporates SEO effectiveness and bot accessibility directly into the build platform. It’s also factored in to the behind the scenes coding so that with a little help on the other 2 Cs, you’ll be off to a flying start with no technical hindrances. 2. Credibility – External Linking Simply put, link building (the process of gaining links to your site from 3rd party sites) is a popularity contest. Google and other search engines index all the links they find across the web. They can see how often and from where your site receives links.Links tell search engines a number of things about your site and help the engines position your site by industry and audience type. If you receive links from lots of other home décor and interior design websites for example, it becomes clear you are connected to this industry. As such you are more likely to rank for keywords related to this industry and its nuances. While the number of links is important, there are different link types and different levels of quality. Links from websites with high domain authority which likely rank well on search engines themselves, are far more beneficial than links from lower tier websites, social media links and directory links. 3. Content – All the ‘Stuff’ on your site Moving into the most modern SEO era, content is arguably one of the most important of the 3 Cs and when the basics are taken care of, becomes the defining factor of who ranks higher. Content is quite literally what you’d expect. What content and how much of it is there on your website. How well is your content laid out in terms of showing its importance to search engine robots for example? This will come down to page layout, navigation and other factors which tie in with crawlability. Then it’s a case of quality. How much high quality text content do you have on your site which talks about your products, your services, your brand and the greater trends and concerns of your industry? Search engines rank authority sites, that they can trust to provide their users with the right information or services following their search. That’s what search engines are for.Frequency is another factor. Basically, this is a case of how often your site has new content added. Your site should be seen to be constantly growing. It’s for this reason that keeping a well-maintained blog on your site is such a popular and affective SEO tool. When you look at your current SEO strategy or you sit down to create one, separate your strategy using the 3 Cs to ensure you have your bases covered. From there, you can get into the nitty gritty of each and continuously build your approach. This greatly increases your chances of improved search engine ranking.
