What type of visual content should you add to blog posts?

Ilya Nasedkin • 3 May 2019

Crafting a great blog post is about more than generating a catchy title. You need that of course to draw your reader in but you also need to create content that makes the reader want to stay on the page and consume everything you have to offer. That means developing your own style and tone of voice to give your blog an identity, putting in the research to offer content that is unique, valuable, interesting and useful and taking the time to add visuals where appropriate.Us humans are primarily visual creatures, with research showing that images tend to be remembered much more easily than words. Visual content also makes a page more attractive and stickier. It adds another level of interest to your content and can even help your post to go viral. So, what kind of visual content should you be adding to your blogs? Here are a few suggestions…

1. Slideshows Slideshows are a great addition to a blog post and aren’t used as often as they should be. They can be used for any type of content, whether you’re a B2B or B2C brand and convey a huge amount of information. Use them to add additional context, background information or distil key points from your main post into a more snackable format. 2. Memes Who doesn’t love a meme? Even President Trump has jumped aboard this trend with Game of Thrones style memes. Funny, relatable and often viral, a good meme adds a more light-hearted element to your content. Just make sure the meme is very relevant to your text and appropriate for your brand and audience. 3. Infographics Infographics have been popular for years and show no signs of going anywhere just yet. They’re a great way of visually displaying data and distilling lots of information, numbers of facts down into a more easily absorbed way. For infographics to be effective, they need to be well-researched and well designed. Infographics tend to be quite large and dominate a page. To get the most from this type of image in SEO terms, ensure that you also have the text depicted in the image written out below. 4. Videos Video is the world’s most shared content format and a very smart addition to any blog post. You’ll often see news sites embedding mini videos within their reports and you can replicate this style for almost any type of blog.
