How to get the right people to notice your business in 2021

re • 29 September 2021

It often takes knowing the right people to get your business off the ground, but how do you find them?

A group of people are sitting around a table with laptops in a conference room.

As an entrepreneur, you’ve probably been told a lot about the importance of getting your ideas and work noticed by the ‘right people’.

If you’re just getting started with your business, perhaps in a new sector to any you have worked in before, it can be difficult to not only get your business in front of these people but also find out who these people are.

This can be frustrating when you know these people could make all the difference to your new business. Here are some of our tips to make things easier:

What do you need from this person?

Different situations call for different needs so it’s important to think about who this ‘right person’ is for your business.

Is it someone who has the power to sign off projects and potential collaborations with your business? Is it an expert in your field who has knowledge about an aspect of your business you’re struggling with? Or are you simply trying to find the right customer to engage with?

Find a champion

It can be hard to reach out to people, especially when they’re busy and powerful when you’re complete strangers.

It’s always best to see if there’s anyone in your business network that is a mutual connection that you can use for an introduction. These people are your champions and can make finding the right people, far easier.

Do your homework

To make a connection, you need to understand the person you want to reach out to. What are their interests, business goals etc.?

Knowing this information will make it easier for you to sell your business to them in a way that’s relevant.

Meet the person where they are

You can’t expect the person to come to you, so meet them where you know they will be. If you’re looking for a business connection, you can find them on LinkedIn, at conferences and tradeshows, or by simply booking an appointment at their offices.

If it’s a potential customer, it may be best to get in front of them by being present on social media platforms like Instagram and Twitter.

Be consistent

Remember that sometimes the people we think are right for us, actually aren’t as interested in our business as we thought they’d be—and that’s OK.

Every opportunity can turn into another, so consider what went wrong with this person and why they weren’t a good fit for your business needs, then use that information to identify the next ‘right person’.

Be consistent about reaching out to new people, and don’t give up after the first person who wasn’t able to help as there will always be more.
