Every on the ball entrepreneur is constantly looking to boost the awareness and presence of their businesses or indeed themselves. Now, we all know there are a number of paid and organic ways to promote a business or personality. Social media is one of the most popular and effective choices if of course, if it’s done right.
Entrepreneurs and small business owners are busy people. There is a lot that requires your attention. But as we have already alluded to, social media when done right can be a powerful free tool. That means that while you may be time conscious, you can’t afford to cut corners and expect it to work for you. Here’s some tips to keep you going about social the way you should.
Design and Quality Still Matters
Yes, it’s true, social media is a little more laid back in terms of presentation and expected quality than what you’d put on your official brand website. But this doesn’t mean it has to be. Top brands don’t allow the standard of their design work, imagery or video content to slip just because it’s on social media. If anything, most brands are striving for a more professional and higher end finish for what is in many cases, their most successful marketing channel.
Make sure your images are high quality and that your profile image is clean and fits the recommended size ratios. This includes making sure it works for mobile as well. Most social platforms including Facebook display various imagery in different ratios depending on the device used.
Get the right kit
Instagram has given rise to a new generation of mobile phone photography. But the filters can’t fix everything. It is well worth investing in a smartphone with a powerful camera front and back. This ensures that when the moment strikes for a cheeky snap, you aren’t posting poor quality, blurry or dark images. The same goes for video.
Most top of the range smartphones can shoot high quality video these days and there’s no reason you can’t produce mobile video and go straight to social media with it. Not everything needs to be downloaded and edited and if you’re on location or at an event you can’t afford to wait a day to post.
Consider investing in some audio accessories, maybe even a Bluetooth microphone or similar so that if you are conducting on the spot interviews or talking direct to camera, you’re not screaming at your device and picking up background noise.
Don’t allow the pressure of continuous posting and quantity to sacrifice the quality of what you’re putting up. Every single post needs to represent your brand or yourself in the best possible light. Preparation is key and if you need help, look to work with a social media management agency to help you maintain a high profile presence.
