Google confirms another core
algorithm update
Google took
to Twitter to pre-warn that a core algorithm update would be performed on 24
September, giving advance notice in the morning that the roll-out would take
place that afternoon. The Tweet was short and to the point and as always, gave
little away saying simply, “Later
today, we are releasing a broad core algorithm update, as we do several times
per year. It is called the September 2019 Core Update.”Google also referred users to its previous blog on algorithm
updates where it said that it makes multiple updates and that a loss of ranking
doesn’t necessarily mean that there is anything wrong with the page. The blog
goes on to say that those who do want to make change after an update shouldn’t
assume that they have been penalised but to focus any remedial work on
improving content. Our post here shares tips for making your content
more effective
if you do want to make updates in light of the
September 2019 core algorithm update. We’ve also rounded up Google’s advice on
what to do after a core update here.
Influencers
say Instagram’s hidden likes experiment is impacting growth
Six months ago Instagram announced that it was going to begin
an experiment which would hide likes from users. The experiment is still
ongoing but recent research into the impact of this trial has revealed that
content creators have experienced slower follower growth, fewer comments on
posts and less engagement as a result.According to the influencer agency, #paid 35% of creators
hate or dislike the no likes experience with a third saying they are witnessing
fewer comments per post than before the experiment rolled out. The data shows
that follower growth has also slowed for around half of creators, meaning it
can be a struggle to reach new audiences. A quarter of those who have seen
their likes hidden by Instagram said they “strongly agree” with the statement
that they post less often as a result.Pinterest launches new ad optionsIn a move timed to coincide with the start of the holiday
shopping season, Pinterest has revealed three updates to its business
experience. It has rolled out new ad formats which are designed to make it
easier for retailers to turn their catalogue of products into adverts and
created a Shop The Look feature which makes it easy for Pinterest users to
click and buy exact products from retailers.
