Earlier this week, LinkedIn took to its marketing blog to share its best practise tips for optimising LinkedIn company pages. As the blog notes, you most likely regularly undertake SEO activities to get your business website ranking well on Google, so why not also deploy similar strategies to ensure that your Company Page is also prominent on LinkedIn? Let’s not forget, LinkedIn has already told us that half of its 610 million users buy from brands they engage with on social media.Kylee Lessard from LinkedIn says, “These brand hubs on LinkedIn provide an excellent opportunity to tell your story, highlight your employees, and share useful content. You can increase your odds of showing up in the right web searches by following a few simple practices.”
Use the space under the banner for important keywords Keywords are just as important on LinkedIn as they are on any other search engine – if you think of LinkedIn as a search engine for the purposes of optimisation rather than a social network, it will help you get into the right mindset for making Company Page changes.Of course, to optimise you’ll need keywords. If you already carry out SEO on your business website, you may have these to hand already. If not, you’ll have to do a little keyword research before you can begin the process of optimisation.Once you have your list of phrases, you can set to work optimising your tag line. This is the short snippet of text under the page banner – it functions like an elevator pitch so must be short, snappy and use your most important keyword. Optimise your about section Your about section forms the bulk of your company profile so make it as compelling as possible. You’ll want to use your keywords here too and longer tail phrases related to your area of business. In this section, you can place a link back to your website so if you don’t have that on your profile as yet, now is the time to add it. Add as much relevant info as possible LinkedIn also gives you space on your Company Page to add other useful information – things such as company size, industry and location can all help LinkedIn users to find you and note your company as relevant to them. The more complete your profile, the more comprehensive and useful your search visibility will be. Add images Adding images such as your Page banner may be low on the priority list but it is an important optimisation point. It helps your page to stand out and makes it distinctive. It’s also an optimisation point if the LinkedIn blog hints are to be believed. Add content and updates Finally, as with your website, adding content regularly to your LinkedIn page is another important optimisation process. Sharing updates and company news several times a week keeps your Company Page up to date and can help it appear more relevant to members as well as aiding in LinkedIn visibility.
