The high street may be struggling but ecommerce is thriving with the volume of transactions made online only looking likely to increase this year. Last year’s Black Friday and Cyber Monday showed consumers have a massive appetite for all things ecommerce, with Cyber Monday breaking records for the largest online shopping day in history, ever.Of course, once you have an ecommerce website design ready to go, you’ll want to make sure that you are truly leveraging every opportunity to make sales online so here are a few emerging ecommerce trends which should be on your radar for 2019…

Use social selling opportunitiesWhile social selling hasn’t really emerged as a massive revenue driver yet, this is one ecommerce trend that could very well catch more than a few brands by surprise in 2019. With social platforms like Pinterest and Instagram recently updating their social selling options with shoppable posts, using your social media presence to drive more sales is something well worth exploring.Buy now, pay laterAs consumers, most of us will have been tempted by buy now, pay later options at one time or another but, did you know this can also be incorporated into your ecommerce approach for the New Year? The fashion retailer Missguided is one of the higher profile examples of this being put into place recently as it announced a few days ago that it would now offer buy now, pay later for orders made on its app after partnering with the payment processor Klarna. A growing number of brands are starting to offer this to customers so, it’s one to keep in mind to stay a step ahead of the competition.Consider developing an Amazon presenceTowards the end of 2018, much was made about the number of advertisers planning to switch some of their paid search budget from the traditional favourite, Google Ads to Amazon ads instead. Research shows that in the US, around 68% of shoppers go straight to Amazon when they are looking for a product and it rivals Google as a product discovery medium. If you plan to add Amazon to your ecommerce options this year, you have a number of different routes to consider, from becoming a merchant to simply advertising on product pages.Don’t discount app salesA study by eMarketer concluded that by 2021, almost 73% of online orders will take place on mobile devices – meaning now is the perfect time to overhaul your app and ensure it’s set up to take orders. This is one area that many brands fail to properly utilise but given that it looks likely to grow and grow, could be a beneficial addition to your ecommerce strategy for 2019.
