Easy tips to elevate your content

We’re less than two weeks away from the third month of the year – so what better time to sit down and refresh your content efforts? Now the busy beginning to the year is out the way and the regular routine has kicked back in, these last few days of February provide the ideal opportunity to hone in on how your content can be improved, make more powerful and more impactful going into key calendar dates such as Mother’s Day (in the UK) and the long Easter weekend.
Our suggestions are effective and easy to implement so consider bringing them into your strategy from the very next piece of content you create to see an uptick in impact and increase in effectiveness.

1. Create updated audience personas
Every marketer worth their salt will create audience personas at the start of a marketing campaign or new strategy but, how recently were yours updated? Shopper habits change and new pain points and requirements arise. If it’s been a while since you checked in with your personas, make this your first job. Make sure they are up to date and as detailed as possible so they are helpful to you when brainstorming content ideas and drafting up new pieces, whether they be buying guides, how tos, white papers or any other content format.

2. Check in with Google Trends
Content is only impactful and effective when it’s seen by the right people. On the back of your persona work, check in with Google Trends and identify intent-rich keywords that are trending right now. This tool will show you the most popular search terms within a given topic and identify breakout searches – those terms that are suddenly being used a lot more. This kind of insight will ensure your content is optimised and therefore more visible but also resonate with the reader by containing words and phrases they’re actively seeking out information on.

3. Invest in some graphic design
We’ve all heard the saying an image is worth a thousand words, but sometimes us marketers are guilty of forgetting those words of wisdom or thinking they don’t apply to us. The truth is, good quality, eye-catching visuals can instantly elevate your content and make it much more eye-catching, digestible and interesting. Even if you don’t change anything else about your approach to content creation, the simple addition of better pictures and graphics could easily improve your content performance by making it more interesting and attractive to the audience.

4. Conduct audience surveys
Creating more impactful content means giving your readers more of what they want. To find this out – ask! Don’t be afraid to conduct audience surveys – this can be done easily on Instagram Stories for example – and ask your readers what they liked from you recently and what they want to see more of.
