Summer is in full swing and as we head into the month of July, there’s plenty to catch up on in the world of search. From new algorithms to new launches, we’re here to help you keep your finger on the pulse of all things Google, social media, content and SEO. Read on for our round-up of all of the advances that you need to know this month.
Google has begun to roll out its July core update – one of a series of larger updates it makes to its algorithms each year. The previous update came in June, though some of the changes were not ready to be launched according to the search engine, which means they have been folded into the July changes.
Cope updates typically take a couple of weeks to fully roll out, meaning you may not yet have seen much of an impact on your search positions or traffic numbers. Google says that most sites won’t notice the updates, though as is usually the case, it was tight lipped on what is actually being changed. The June update did cause some ranking fluctuation so if you saw movement then, it could be you’ll see a reversal as a result of the July update.
If you’re considering our Eazi-Content opportunity, you’ll be very interested in the latest nugget of information released by Google. In the latest in the Ask Google series, search engine guru John Mueller (officially Google’s ‘search relations representative’) was asked how long it takes for new pages to be indexed.
His answer? It could be mere hours. He did add that it could also be several weeks. Crucially, Mueller said that having your new or updated content indexed doesn’t necessarily translate to rankings – and that there is no guarantee your content will be indexed, especially if it’s poor quality, duplicate or mirrored.
There were a few tips for speeding up indexing, including making your site load faster overall, focusing on high quality content, creating prominent inter-site links to your new content and submitting new URLs.
TikTok videos continually made headlines during the height of lockdown but the video sharing site has been able to retain that momentum to be named one of 2021’s fastest growing brands according to the latest BrandZ report. TikTok sits alongside Tesla and Pinduoduo in being named for its speedy growth; it has seen its market value more than double this year alone.
