You know the old saying – a picture is worth a thousand words. But whether you’re looking to create an eye-catching social media post to publicise your latest client win or app download milestone, or fancy updating your site with a new picture, images can be expensive, especially if you need to use them for commercial purposes.

As part of that, here are a few sources for copyright free images you can download and use when you need a great quality picture in a pinch, without having to pay through the nose for it!
Pexels
Pexels has a database of thousands of free stock photos – so if you need a library image, an eye-catching picture or flat lay in a hurry, you might be able to find it here. The photos here are high quality and totally free, thanks to the Creative Commons Zero license. There’s an easy search function and a choice of sizes, with no registration required to search, download or use. Millions of contributors make their photos available via Pexels, so there is a good mix of styles and subject matter to choose from.
Pixabay
Like Pexels, the Pixabay website is a treasure trove of totally free images which you can search, download and use. Whether you want to add some pop to a business proposal or create a more eye-catching blog post, social media update or even Insta post, it’s easy to do with Pixabay.
Pixabay has more than 1.4 million royalty free stock photos and videos. As well as photographs, it has a good store of vector graphics and illustrations. Again, you can download any of the community files free of charge with no special, costly license needed for commercial use. A variety of sizes are also available.
Canva
Canva is a graphic design tool – probably the easiest in the world infact – so if you are trying to create something for your app business, such as a leaflet, a Facebook cover or even an infographic, it’s a good bet you can do it with Canva. As well as pre-made templates across a whole host of content formats, from ebooks to invitations, there are also free images to use within your designs. There’s a free and paid option plus the choice of buying stock images cheaply from the library if you can’t find a free one to suit.
