The 2018 Google Play Awards Winners Are In

Google has unveiled its Play Award winners at the I/O Developer Conference, showcasing the best and most innovative apps of the year. Whether you’re considering the Eazi-Apps app business opportunity or already have your app business up and running, these apps provide plenty of food for thought and inspiration for your own app creations.

Best Android well-being app

There’s been a surge in apps for Android that focus on meditation, mindfulness and overall health and wellness but, Google narrowed its best Android well-being app down to Simple Habit. This app helps users to enjoy a five-minute meditation session each day, giving Android users an easy way to incorporate the practise into their daily routine. It’s a Play Store Editor’s Choice, has a 4.7 user rating from more than 8000 reviews and won the 2017 Best Apps title.

Once installed on the user’s phone, Simple Habit guides users through five-minute meditation sessions, led by a range of practioners including former monks.

Best social impact app for Android

The free learning app, Khan Academy won the Best Social Impact title. A favourite with Google Play Store users, it has a 4.6 star rating from over 80,000 reviews. The app gives users the chance to learn almost anything at no cost. Once downloaded and installed on an Android device, users have access to 10,000 videos and explanations. Subjects covered include mathematics, economics and history.

In addition to videos, students can complete interactive exercises and test their knowledge with over 40,000 Common Core practise questions, including feedback and tips. There are also quizzes and chapter tests to cement understanding and chart progress.

Best AR or VR experience app

The BBC’s Earth app fought off stiff competition to win the coveted title of best AR or VR app. Based on its popular TV series of the same name, the Earth App takes users on a journey of our natural world, fuelled by virtual reality. The app takes users along the Californian coastline and underwater, to discover creatures, habitats and ecosystems in microscopic scale.

Features include diving with otters and sperm whales, transforming into micro-organisms to witness the essential role Zooplankton play and witnessing migration patterns.

Best breakthrough Android app

The role-play game, Empires and Puzzles was named best break through app. It was lauded for its design, user experience, install growth, user retention and user engagement. Despite winning the breakthrough prize, the app has already clocked up over half a million user reviews, giving it an average of 4.8 stars.
