With over 173 million active daily users around the world sending more than one billion Snaps every day, Snapchat has become one of the most popular mobile apps on the market. What started as a way to send self-deleting content has rapidly become a popular form of communication and a platform for promotion and digital marketing amongst a number of global brands. Despite being such a powerhouse in the world of mobile social media, Snapchat still has to stay relevant by updating its services and changing its interface. One way it has done this recently is with a Snapchat redesign.
There have been a number of new features and additional buttons added to Snapchat in recent years but the latest announcement from the software giant has users excited and the internet buzzing with anticipation over the upcoming overhaul which is currently in the pipeline. This announcement came after a statement released by CEO Evan Spiegel who said that the new update will address consumer feedback relating to the usability of Snapchat.
Among the millions of users that have sent snaps and given reviews using the popular app, a common concern is that Snapchat can be confusing to navigate, especially for new users. This illustrates a need for Snapchat developers to re-evaluate their app and change the way users interact with it in order to improve customer satisfaction and increase usage figures.
Although there has been very little said in regards to the specifics of the new update, it seems that Snapchat has something bigger than basic interface changes in the works. The plans also seem to be very high on Snapchat’s priority list. So much so that the recent statement from the company’s CEO outlined the possibility of short-term disruptions to the business in wake of the new redesign. It seems that the company is taking the need to stay relevant and popular very seriously by focusing all its efforts on rebuilding the app.
There are concerns among some users as well as company developers that the drastic nature of the planned changes may not be well-received by existing users. This seems to be a risk that Snapchat is willing to take, however, as the push for a redesign has come from all levels of the company pyramid. The official launch date of the new update is yet to be released but there is a lesson to be learned here for developers looking to increase circulation of their existing products and that is: change is necessary in order to stay relevant and improve.
